The Affair 2010
mixed media installation photography, text
The project explores the way photography could provide an understanding to its social context.
The installation tells a story of an affair with a local photographer during an artist residency in a European capital city. The photographer, who made a photo-book about the country national identity, is the main protagonist, his book is a tool to relate to the city and explore the idea of national identity.
The project questions the special position of the ‘artist in residence’, in terms of cultural production, but also in the level of sexual economy. This way the ‘affair’ becomes an art project, the personal and the political get staged, questioning isolation, desire, and the possibility to relate to one’s surroundings through the means of photography (and desire).
